Airlines supposedly offer discounted airfare rates for children. However, those discounts are off of the "full-fare" rates, which are NEVER paid by regular travelers. (As a hint, full-fares are also fully refundable and require no advance purchase.) In other words, it will be cheaper to by your child a regular plane ticket than a discounted full-fare ticket.

I would like to fly from Birmingham Al to Chicago Il with my 4 and 9 year old. I wanted to know if there are special rates for children? We are planning to go in November.

This info is outdated. Southwest uses Chase for its cc these days. But the rest is still relevant. The cost is $69 annual fee, and it’s ridiculous, but they do offer 3000 points (about $50 worth of ticket) annually.

Theoretically, this is possible. It doesn't happen often enough for them to worry about it too much. Remember it takes 6 to 8 weeks to get your credits and you'll only be able to pull this off once, since from then on you won't technically be a "new customer". People using credit cards rewards to their full potential can and do come out ahead. That is goal of any financially savvy credit card user. However, this is rare to actually happen in real life which is why if you search long enough you can find a way to work the system.

I understand this cc is not a great deal but if I apply for classic card, pay $39 annual fee, use the card only once for any purchase, use their reward for one round trip, pay the card within the grace period and cancel it after some time. I get a round trip for $39. What is wrong in this? Where is the catch?

Also when I apply how do I choose CLASSIC and not signature. There is no option on the Southwest application form. It seems they may get me for $59.
